Significance of 26th January in India’s struggle for Purna Swaraj

constitution is that body of laws and rules according to which a state is governed. The constitution determines the form of government, the powers that the various organs of the constitution have, limitations on these powers and finally, the citizen’s rights and duties.
26th January plays an important role in in India’s journey for independence as, in the congress session held at Lahore on 29 December 1929, a resolution was passed for purna swaraj. During this session it was also decided that 26th january will be celebrated as Purna Swaraj Day. This day was celebrated till the year 1947 after which india got it’s independence on 15th august. Hence independence day came to be celebrated on 15th august. But, as 26th january had played an important role in freedom, it was the day which was selected for the commencement of the constitution. Therefore, 26th January came to be known as republic day.
